We at CIPH3R

CIPH3R’s backstory is what makes the company special. Peter, & David were friends from their professional lives and tech enthusiasts.

Each of them worked on backend IT within the verticals of Financial Services and Healthcare. In their day-to-day lives they were exposed to organizations yearning for a better way to protect their companies’ sensitive data both from internal as well as external threats. When they would evaluate solutions, they would either not cover all of their data sources, would be cumbersome to implement, or would limit the applications functionality.

Peter’s intimate knowledge and curiosity in emerging technologies lead him to research the NIST-approved concept of Format Preserving Encryption (FPE) for one of his clients’ challenges. He quickly realized that there was not a prominent solution in the market and proposed the concept to David. They readily agreed to begin building a product to take to market themselves.

In addition to the complex engineering for security standards, they contemplated the business’s foundational elements, including selecting a fitting name. Encryption is often called ciphertext. Ciphertext was originally designed by the famous Roman Emperor, Julius Caesar, to protect military messaging. The concept was so revolutionary that it was coined “Caesar Cipher” and was achieved by moving the position of the characters 3 to the right. For example, in English, an A became a D, a B transformed into an E, and so on. This innovation unfolded when literacy rates stood at just around 10%.

Peter, and David then thought the perfect name would be CIPH3R. They were building a new empire and ensuring their data is protected just like Julius Caesar’s had done during his reign. This is why you’ll see our company’s theme is around the Praetorian Guard who served as the protectors of the Roman Empire.

Our mission is to be the Praetorian Guard for companies HSPII, PII, PHI, or any sensitive data at the row level from internal or external threats, while adhering to all of the latest security standards, and ensuring the application’s functionality is intact.
